“I’m just trying to tell you that this is the direction our body is going”
January 13 to February 28, 2012
Vranesh Boardroom Gallery
Artist Reception & Performance: January 13th 5-7 pm
Alex Lange “I’m just trying to tell you that this is the direction our body is going” is a performance work that attempts to use my body to close the distance between myself and the sun. In attempting to close this distance, the performance becomes a meditation on my spiritual experience. My exploration of landscapes that appear to be infinite or beyond my ability to perceive is in direct connection to my belief in our very own infinity. This infinity seeks a connectedness of all human infiniteness, a connectedness that could be described as a soul or essence that extends beyond our physical body. Utilizing text, movement, and video, this performance will draw on Midwestern landscapes to attempt to close the gap between myself and the infinity within myself.

REVELATIONS AND INSPIRATIONS
April 20 to June 5, 2012
Carlander Family Gallery
Artists Reception: April 20th 5-7 p.m.
My ambition has always been to abstract my painting subjects. However, as an observational and
mechanical artist, that has always been a challenge. With acrylic paints, I can enthusiastically play with abstractionism—creating more colorful, expressive, and whimsical forms of landscapes as well as nonobjective compositions. I totally enjoy the magic that takes place during the painting process. As I immerse myself into each creative adventure, I often times find myself feeling transported into another dimension as if time no longer exists and my imagination and hands work to materialize a new image with color, line, texture, a sense of movement, balance, expression, and mood. When my artwork is finished, not only do I want to enjoy my own creation but I also hope to provide the viewers of my work an opportunity to be briefly distracted from whatever is on their minds—a momentary gift of enchantment and amusement.
Israel — Macro to Panoramic
April 20 to June 5, 2012
Vranesh Boardroom Gallery
Artists Reception: April 20th 5-7 p.m.
One striking impression of Israel is that it packs such a diversity of views into less than 10,000 square miles, less than 1/8 the area of Minnesota. Another is its diversity of people — I recently heard one person refer to it as a “Disneyland of history and religion” — and life styles, everything from Western Urban, to nomadic, to third-world, to small rural towns. During a tour-on-a-shoestring lasting six weeks, I pictured both its landscape and its detail, and share them here with you, the viewer.

My love of art began at a very early age; grew during high school, on through fine arts studies at Century College, graphic arts at St. Paul College, various workshops and classes with other established artists and always continues with my own self study.
This show represents images from everyday life that caught my attention. Usually after shooting a photo I then translate onto paper or canvas what I saw or felt at the time. My body of work is an accumulation of landscapes or portraits that I’ve done over the last several years. I created these pieces using a variety of mediums such as pencil, pen & ink, pastel and one acrylic piece.
These activities are made possible in part by a grant provided by the Minnesota State Arts Board through an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature from the State’s general fund and its arts and cultural heritage fund with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008.
