Adult Drawing
Improve your life drawing skills. This class is for students who are comfortable with basic drawing skills.
Mondays May 5 - 26; 6-7pm; Class Fee: $40m/$50nm


WORKSHOPS:

Expressions in Wax on Cloth: Batik
(Instructor: Arlene Rolf and Deborah Johnson)
This class will focus on the properties of wax and how in its molten form can create a variety of images and textures on cloth and together with colorful dyes produce a vibrant piece of art to be framed or used as a hanging.  Participants will experiment with brushes, the tjanting tool, stamps, stencils, brayers and even dip bound cloth into hot wax. There will be an introduction to Rozome – the Japanese form of wax resist with examples for comparison.  Repeat batikers will expand on the techniques they already know and beginners will experience the excitement of this ancient artform.

JUNE  2008

Adult Watercolor Painting
Basic watercolor from selection of subjects, paper, use of brushes and watercolor techniques. Focus: objects, landscapes, floral. (Four instructional classes with two additional classes where participants may work independently with the instructor there to answer questions and review work.)

Mondays June 2,9,16,23, 12:30 – 1:30 ($40m/$50nm)
and (optional) July 7,14 12:30-1:30 ($10/session)

Adult Basic Drawing
Basic drawing from selection of subjects, paper selection, putting images on paper (grid, freehanding, projection), use of perspective, use of pencils, charcoal, ink, pastels, colored pencils. Focus: objects, landscapes, floral, structures, animals, people. Participants who have a fear of drawing or feel uncomfortable with their skill this is the class for you. (Four instructional classes with two additional classes where participants may work independently with the instructor, who will be there to answer questions and review work.

Thursdays June 5,12,19,26, 12:30 – 1:30 ($40m/$50nm)
and (optional) July 3,10 12:30-1:30 ($10/session)


Summer Art Exploration I

Monday
Drawing (Animals, Structures, People, Cartoons, Plants; Realistic, Expressionist, Abstract; Pencil, Colored Pencil, Chalk Pastel, Oil Pastels, Charcoal, Ink, Crayon, Markers.)

Tuesday
Painting (Animals, Landscapes, People, Plants; Realistic, Expressionist, Abstract; Watercolor, Tempera)

Wednesday
Printmaking (Animals, Landscapes, Plants, Objects; Realistic, Expressionist, Abstract; Relief (cardboard, Styrofoam, textures) Monoprints (waterbased ink, watercolor markers))

Thursday
Clay Construction (Containers, Sculptures, Functional/Non-functional; Handbuilding Process, slabs, coils, pinch, carve (subtractive/additive)) An art exhibit will be a final part of the sessions.  Kids will select one work to be put on display and they will provide a statement about their work.

Mon. – Thurs., July 7-10, 14-17, 21-24. 1:00 pm- 4:00 p.m.

Cost: Each three-week Art Camp is $180 members/$210 for non-members. Or sign up for just one week for $65/m or $75/nm.

Summer Art Exploration II

Session One
Mural/Graffiti. Boxes:  Kids will develop a portable mural using a variety of sized boxes. The mural(s) will be put on display in the Center when finished. Weaving Found Objects:  Kids will use a cardboard looms to weave a variety of materials: paper, cloth, yarn, plant materials, beads, etc.

Mon. – Thurs., August 4-7, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm ($90 m/$100 nm)

Session Two
Open Drawing and Painting:  Children will explore drawing and painting using subject matter they bring to the sessions.  Instructor will facilitate and guide the child in composition issues. (For children who have had drawing instruction)

Mon. – Thurs., August 4-7, 1:00 pm- 4:00 pm ($90 m/$100 nm)

Lunch will be offered for those who want to stay for both sessions for a fee of $5 per day.

Children's Theatre Camp

Students develop their imaginations, voices, and bodies by teaching theatre skills that will empower them, both as artists and as people.

Mon. – Thurs. August 11 – 14 6 – 8pm ($80m/$90 nm)

All studios are available for members on this day. The pottery studio is also open Saturdays.

Pottery Studio Times are 10 - 2 Saturdays (unless there is a class, which will be announced) and 6:00 pm -9:00 pm Tuesday evenings.
