Through volunteer opportunities, free or low cost art classes and performances, and accessibility to the arts, we are LITERALLY CHANGING LIVES!
With your help we can continue to make the arts and culture accessible to EVERYONE: kids, adults and the diverse cultures that make up our local community, and maintain our programming: visual arts classes, community theatre, music and cultural events. Our mission is to be accessible to all artists and art lovers, and we work hard to be accessible to low income, at-risk, and underserved populations. The Paradise offers low-cost and free programs such as free art exhibitions in our gallery, including after-hours tours for the local alternative high schools, children’s art exhibitions, interactive children’s theatre performances for school children, and specialized classes for EBD and at-risk adults and kids. We work with the Friendship House, Rice County Social Services, Girl Scouts of America, local public and private schools, the Workforce Center, and other organizations that reach those who need us most. Art makes a difference in people’s lives!
Did you know that last year we paid about $530 to bring in the Hampstead Players theatre group to perform interactive theatre for kids from Faribault Lutheran School, the Academies for the Blind and Deaf, and homeschool kids as well as the general public. These performances were available for just $3 per child! We had about 200 kids here for one performance. It’s true that we did not make a profit here. It’s also true that we BELIEVE IN THESE PROGRAMS. We KNOW that they make a difference in these kids’ lives.
We had kids who were severely handicapped, blind, deaf, and elementary school kids – all had a GREAT time. Due to budget constraints, there is no way these schools could have brought their kids to a similar performance in the cities, and there is not another local venue that can accommodate either that number of handicapped kids or the sheer volume of bodies for a single performance like that. Do we want our local kids to have these GREAT experiences? To learn about Greek Mythology, Classic Literature, Shakespeare….? YES!
So why am I telling you this? So that you know at least one reason why your support – your gift – is SO important. We need to ensure the continued programming that makes a difference in so many children’s lives. Whether it’s this type of performance, or bringing in groups of kids from the Faribault Area Learning Center after hours, or maybe it’s coming in extra hours to teach an at-cost class to developmentally disabled adults. IT MATTERS.
So please, think about what Paradise means to you and to this community. How many chances do you have to really change a life? To show kids that there is MORE to life than video games, drugs, and iPods? To be the change you want to see in the world? (Thanks Ghandi.) Think about it. Give. Make a difference.
